“Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.”
Although there are many Brat-1 families that unfortunately exist in the child loss community, this "club" that no one wants to be a part of, is made up of some of the most special humans around the globe, with a different story behind each face.
My husband Chris and I lost our beloved 3 year old son Harry suddenly on the 13th Feb 2016, after a short battle against Sepsis. He was a happy little boy who loved trains, Micky Mouse and Minecraft.
Harry had a Type A Streptococcal infection with symptoms very similar to Scarlet Fever and also severe Pneumonia in his left lung. We were told he had a viral infection, this misdiagnosis meant Harry did not receive life saving antibiotics and care that he urgently needed.
Navigating our lives without our son is indescribable. Unless you have sadly been through it yourself it is so hard to comprehend the depths of sadness, it permeates every ounce of your soul. The repercussions of his death and the milestones that he will miss have an effect that will last a lifetime.
We were incredibly lucky to have been able to welcome Harry's little brother Fredrik to the world in 2018, he has been our hope and bought light back to our lives. We live quieter lives now and take our joy from the simple things. We find solace and comfort in the child loss community
Along with the support of our family and friends we raise awareness and funds for the UK Sepsis Trust. We hope that this valuable work will save the lives of other children just like Harry.
Sepsis is a life threatening condition that arises when the body's response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs.
Sepsis leads to shock, multiple organ failure and death. Sepsis can be caused by a huge variety of different bugs, most cases being caused by common bacteria which we all come into contact with every day without them making us ill. Sometimes though, the body responds abnormally to these infections, and cause sepsis.
We will miss our little man forever and constantly wonder who he would be today.

Beau Joseph Cotti started out as a wishful hope. When he came bursting into our lives July 25th of 2017, so much seemed to have l went out the window. He was the most amazing little newborn. It was hard for a first time mom, don’t get me wrong, to really adjust to the presence of this tiny little human. But boy, was he just an amazing little soul. Even through all the hard parenting moments I would always catch myself and think “How am I THIS lucky?” What could I have done to deserve this, is this really what happiness is like?! Because this little person who chose us as his family, whoa, he was just the most remarkable person. The calmest soul, the most understanding toddler - a weirdly patient, gentle little guy.
When you spoke to Beau it was as if he understood immediately. He was only one and a half when he transitioned, but in that short lifetime it was as if he knew the world already. Yet still curious, still brave, and still filled with joy and wonder for this earth.
Beau loved music you could dance to. He loved laughing and joking with the people he loved the most. It took him some time to warm up to new people and people would love that challenge. He really stopped people in their tracks with a simple suspicion glare. Strangers would say “what a serious baby!”, but those of use who knew, knew he was so much more. He lit up rooms and definitely lit up his mom and dad’s life.
It’s been deeply hard without our Beau, but we continue to love him and love for him.
